Tracy A. Turner has been a veterinarian for 46 years, having received his DVM degree from Colorado State University in 1978. He completed an internship at the University of Georgia and a surgical residency as well as a Master of Science degree at Purdue University in 1981. He served on the faculty of the universities of Illinois, Florida, and Minnesota.

In addition, Turner has served on the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) white paper committee on the soring of horses. He was also one of the authors of the National Academy of Sciences report “A Review of Methods for Detecting Soreness in Horses.”

Turner is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, a diplomate of the American College of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, and a fellow of the American Academy of Thermology (AAT). He has also served on the AVMA’s panels on euthanasia, slaughter, and depopulation. He serves as a consultant to the USDA for the Horse Protection Act, as an FEI examining veterinarian, and as a consultant to AQHA on neck hypersensitivity in Quarter Horses.

Turner currently serves as president-elect of the AAEP. He is married to veterinarian Julie Wilson, co-founder of the Equitarian Initiative, which provides care to underserved equids in the developing world.
