In the first episode of My Senior Horse Podcast, we chat with Linda Mars, who is the sponsor of MySeniorHorse.com along with Mars Horsecare.
Linda has had senior horses in her life since she was a child. You can hear her stories about some of her seniors from yesterday and today. Linda understands the responsibility of owning senior horses as well as the tremendous joy they bring to our lives.
Why My Senior Horse?
Her desire for My Senior Horse is to help owners understand that age is not a disease. Many seniors want to—and are able to—stay active and even competitive into their 20s. Then those horses can have jobs such as schoolmasters or even babysitting youngsters on the farm.
Linda said just because a horse is in its teens does not mean it is old. She stressed that some horses into their 20s aren’t old yet, either!
She emphasized that good care throughout a horse’s life is important to have them go into their senior years in the best physical condition possible.
Linda wants to have a place where genuine knowledge about senior equida can be available to a global audience. She wants one spot where all the latest in research, veterinary medicine, and practical knowledge from actual people will be available.
Linda wants to build a global community of experts and readers who are dedicated to senior horses, ponies, donkeys, and mules. Linda said many of us have these aged equids, and we love them.
New episodes of the My Senior Horse Podcast will be aired the 15th and 30th of each month. (February will be the 15th and 28th.) Check out each new episode! We have some great guests in the lineup, including Dr. Tracy Turner, the President-Elect of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) talking about world-class senior competitors airing July 30.
