You might need to wrap your horse’s hoof if he has an abscess or injury. The wrap can help support the injury site and keep medication in the proper location. It’s also helps keep the wound clean and dry.
However, it can be difficult to wrap a hoof and keep the wrap in place.

Tips for Wrapping a Hoof
In this video, Sina Parsaye, DVM, of Parsaye Veterinary Services in Colorado, shares some tips on how to properly wrap a horse’s hoof.
Parsaye starts by cleaning the hoof. Then, he adds a bandage before wrapping the base layer of self-adhesive bandage material (i.e.. Vetrap). Make sure this bandage material is not too tight over the coronary band or hairline.
You will also need to make a duct tape boot that goes around the hoof for protection. Parsaye shows you how to create the lattice, apply it to the hoof, and trim it for proper fit.
It’s important to trim to top of the duct tape boot and apply additional strips of duct tape to secure the boot.
Then your horse is ready for turnout!
